Argentine Tango Class (Fall 2026)
About the Class
This class teaches you Argentine tango, not the exaggerated, acrobatic, choreographed type shown on TV and the movies (which was invented by Hollywood), but the type danced socially in Argentina and around the world. You can dance this type of tango if you have 2 feet, know how to walk, feel comfortable embracing another person, and can stand on one foot for 3 seconds.
Tango is an art form. It encourages you to take beautiful movements that form a complete dance, while all the time making you conscious of your dance partner and the coordination of lead/follow between the two of you. Unlike ballroom dances, Argentine tango is a completely improvised dance based on a rather simple, learnable structure. While certain sequences will be taught as illustrative of possibilities available to you, you will be taught the basic language and how to form your own movements in it.
Imagine describing to your friends how you have learned an elegant dance with roots in South America, one that enjoys a world-wide passion and following. But consider yourself warned: Argentine tango is highly addictive!
